It was interesting....I was in Invincible that day. It was interesting. As we were safe to the south our revered T.22 Goalkeeper was deployed elsewhere. Fore the first time in the deployment our Sea Dart system had failed and was down. And the approaching Argie aircraft were clearly tracked on our radars. Why they did not have us visual at about 25 miles when the raid suddenly west away from us, we will never know. Having turned west the aircraft met up with Exeter and Avenger and encountered a spot of bother...while LJC was attempting to create a sonic boom by diving a Lynx....
Much later it was learned that the Argie raid was navigating by an INS carried in an Etendard, which had been pre-programmed with co-ordinates based on the latest info from the Argie Westinghouse radar at Stanley, which tracked the Sea Harrier's movements. Fortunately, the SHAR pilots had been briefed to asty low after take off and head west about 50 miles before popping up on the Argie radar screen. Reverse procedure for recovery. I don't know whose idea it was originally, and the SHAR crews protested quite strongly, as it reduced their time on CAP. But we were reduced to our "Close-in weapons system" a motley collection of Ship's Company armed with SLR.s and GPMGs positioned around the ship, and that deception on take-off and recovery undoubtedly saved a lot of lives that day.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15131411525512878392noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6373269120445362285.post-27848705370106620962017-05-19T03:41:54.385-07:002017-05-19T03:41:54.385-07:00And I also repainted the Gunwales so I'm now d...And I also repainted the Gunwales so I'm now desperate not to scratch all that lovely new paint!!! Many nouns start with a capital letter (cf German), its/it's seem to be interchangeable and wrongly used, whisky is spelled with an "e" and there is no spacing between different sections of chapters, causing confusion and rereading to sort out this ensuing confusion. It all points to lack of proof-reading, and I think that you are probably unaware of this. I have noticed the same sort of thing in other Kindle/Amazon downloads.

Anyway, please continue with Jon.. So its not relevant to include other aircraft. One of the points about the book is to tell some stories that never got told, like Alacrity's lynx shooting up two Argie boats while on NGS and getting shot up in return or Cardiff's Lynx out flying two Mirage jets who attacked them. There are loads more stories to come out of the woodwork.
If you ever want the true account about Santa Fe - talk to Chris Parry the observer in Humphrey who set the whole attack up in the first place and of course the AS 12 raid on Stanley was by two Wessex Vs. The Santa Fe (Catfish) was disabled by a Wasp with an AS12 (I know you dispute this but two of the missiles exploded on impact although one did just punch a hole through the fin, without exploding). Another AS12 was 'driven' up the High Street and guided along, left and right, into the Town Hall at very close range by a very brave crew, who you know.
